Studying in Sweden-Pros and Cons

It is important to select a good university in Sweden. But first of all we need some information for selecting the world-renowned university in Sweden.

Post graduate study specially the International Masters is mainly course based in Sweden is 1.5 or 2 years where courses are followed by a 20 weeks thesis work (there are some universities who offers for 20+20 weeks of thesis work). Therefore, you need to apply formally. Now,  https://www.studera.nu/ is maintaining the whole admission procedures through https://www.studera.nu/.

Most of the PhD studies is not studentship and those are like jobs and you will get salary and you need to pay income tax as well as.

For top universities in Sweden we could go to http://www.webometrics.info/top100_europe.asp?country=se

When someone wants to select a university than financial matter is important factor for Bangladeshi Students. Currently there are a few scholarships available in Sweden. We could get some information about those scholarships in http://www.kth.se/studies/master/financial?l=en.

But it is still so tough to get a scholarship for Bangladeshi students. Though, I know some students who got the Erasmus Mundus scholarship. More information could be found in http://www.kth.se/studies/master/1.7861?l=en.

The master’s programs are currently free of charge. However, tuition fees for international students are subject to discussion in the Swedish Parliament and may be introduced in the near future. I heard that tuition fees are going to introduce from 2011, though I am not sure.

Therefore, if his or her financial condition is worse than he/she needs to earn his/her living expense. In this case it is better to choose university situated in Stockholm or Gothenburg to get at least an odd job. Though, it is really tough to get a better job here in Sweden because of language barrier. Most of the time, Swedish people want Swedish language as a job requirement.

About the university I know little about the general subject’s university. But I heard that Stockholm University (http://www.su.se/ ) and Uppsala Universitet (http://www.uu.se/) are better than the other ones. In medical science, Karolinska Institutet Stockholm (http://ki.se/ki/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=130&l=sv) has a good reputation than other ones.

In technical subject, Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan, The Royal Institute of Technology (www.kth.se) and Chalmers Tekniska Högskola (http://www.chalmers.se/) have good reputation then the other ones.

Almost, all universities have International program which are in English. But except those international programs; education system is basically in Swedish language.

Application processes are varied in universities. But all most all universities try to follow a procedure; first of all everyone needs an online application. Basically there are two intakes. January session and August session (this is main session; major intakes happened in this time) though some other universities take students in March also. To know more about the intake and deadlines anyone needs to visit the respective websites. After finishing the online application students asked for sending print out application along with the required documents (may vary) directly to the universities.

IELTS score is required by almost all the universities for international program; score may vary.

Basically, in my point of view, in technology Sweden has good reputation and goodwill. They have a good research facility in technology.

Only thing I can say that above information are not sufficient. These could be following as a starting point. If he/she needs more information then you could give him/her my email address. I will do my best to give him or her more information though he or she could easily get that information from the respective web sites. Those web sites are very organized; every site has separate information for the international students.

Again almost all the universities have the same type of facility. It is really tough to select the middle ranking or less ranking universities. I am afraid the following universities are mainly technical universities.

Dalarna University College

Luleå University of Technology

Umeå University

Blekinge Institute of Technology

Jönköping University

Lund University

SLU – Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

Halmstad University

Basically, I heard those names from Bangladeshi students. So, I could not assure about their ranking.
